Winter forests covered in deep snow, gentle hill ranges, and wilderness coated in hoarfrost. The snow crunches beneath our snowshoes with every step. We are gradually gaining altitude and enjoying wonderful views of Bavaria and Bohemia as we hike along the border ridge between Germany and the Czech Republic. The Osser, at 1293 m, one of the "eight thousanders," is our declared destination for the day. A warm tea and a panoramic view compensate for all our efforts. The region is an untouched Eldorado for snowshoe hikers. Renowned peaks such as Schwarzeck, Riedelstein, or Kaitensberg offer tours for any weather conditions and tastes.
