Now it is my third year, since I have actively started hiking and mountaineering ⛰️. In 2021 I was very active in the Alps and in May I was in the beautiful Caucasus Mountains and tried to climb the highest mountain in Europe, Mount Elbrus. Here is the link.

This year I decided that I want to get closer to my dream of getting the Snow Leopard medal. So I will try my first over 7000 meter peak and climb Peak Lenin. In this blog ? I will report my experiences about the preparation for this undertaking. Because the preparation alone is already an adventure. My goal is to ascend the mountain ⛰️ and not to torture ? myself during the ascent.

To achieve this I have to:

  • get rid of at least 18kg
  • learn more about mountaineering, learn and learn again
  • use the knowledge for mountaineering in the alps
  • buy the equipment

I will report my status on a regular basis here on the website. My training plan ? for the week, my weight and what else I did the week to reach my goal. Follow me on our Instagram at @simplytourit, there you will be notified every time a new post is online.

The picture below left shows my starting point at the end of 2019. 15 years of office work, uncontrolled cravings when eating and a scant 150kg. The picture below right shows my starting point at the end of 2021. 108kg already looks much more athletic ? and I also feel better ?.

May 31, 2022 - 54 days until the start of the trip.

This year is really a strange year when it comes to the stress level ?. Somehow it just doesn't work. Daughter broke here hand. Allergy plays crazy. My family doctor decided to do preventive examinations?. His reason was that, I am not the youngest anymore. At the end, I don't think it's a bad idea with the preventive examinations if you look at my plan to climb the Peak Lenin. Stress, stress and stress everywhere. I think it was just time to start the hiking season to take some distance from this crazy world. Life is really too short to be stressed out?. That is why we finally opened the hiking season with a "flash ascent" ⚡, which in the end was not a flash, to the Zugspitze via Stopselzieher starting at Ehrwald. A rather "light" tour for experienced walkers and a rather difficult tour for beginners. Do you know what I particularly love about the mountains? These are the people you get to know. I am always open to new acquaintances and like to talk to people. So this time we won a new mountain friend ?‍?. Our new friend was also very happy about the acquaintance with us, otherwise he would have turned back at the Wiener-Neustädter-Hütte. The weather conditions were not the best. It was very foggy and we were not 100 % sure about the conditions on the via ferrata, whether everything is already snowfree ❄️ or not. But together you are strong. So we in total five persons, initially four, stormed Zugspitze successfully?.

My training plan looked very simple last weeks: ?

  • Monday: exercises on the climbing training board for more finger power
  • Tuesday: 60 minutes run at the pulse of max. 147 strokes per minute
  • Wednesday: 60 minutes run at the pulse of max. 147 strokes per minute
  • Thursday: Hike to the Zugspitze via Stopselzieher starting at Ehrwald.
  • Friday: relaxation
  • Saturday: I wasn't lazy, there is always something to do at home.
  • Sunday: relaxation because I got sick day before

Nutrition: ?

  • Breakfast: Fry the bacon, fry mushrooms and add eggs. Of course, coffee should not be missing.
  • Lunchtime: What I have cooked for the children for the Lunchtime. Pearl grayps, buckwheat, pasta, bread
  • Dinner: salad with meat or fish

Weight: ?

  • 106 kg (-1 kg)

May 09, 2022 - 76 days to go.

What a week. I thought it would be quieter this week, but somehow it turned out differently, but nonetheless I made it through successfully. After a lot of thinking about how to get to the beautiful city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan, I bought the plane tickets ✈️ and organized the trip. All well and good, except these prices ? for the extra luggage. But now I can calmly plan the trip to the end. This week I finally bought a good fleece sweater and thick warm first layer (shirt and long johns). Really excited to see how this one will feel. I am still thinking about what to do with the backpack. I have a really super 40L backpack, which is perfectly adequate in the Alps ⛰️. But if I think about that I have to drag all the stuff to the high camps ?, it is really too tight with 40L. I still have to research ? and decide.

My training plan looked quite simple last week:

  • Monday: exercises on the climbing training board for more finger strength.
  • Tuesday: 60 minutes of running ? at a pulse of 147 beats per minute max.
  • Wednesday: 60 minutes of running ? at a pulse of max. 147 beats per minute and exercises on the climbing training board for more finger strength
  • Thursday: Exercises on the climbing training board for more finger strength.
  • Friday: 60 minutes running ? at the pulse of max 147 beats per minute.
  • Saturday: I was not lazy, there is always something to do at home.
  • Sunday: We had a really great day and organized family climbing with a total of 6 kids. It was a really great day for everyone. Visit us on Instagram at @simplytourit for more information about this day.

Diet / weight: (107 kg) -1 kg ?

Now I have no more excuses. I used the week to mentally prepare for the diet

  • I have reduced sweets ? significantly. I love sweets.
  • Eat fruit ?only in the mornings.
  • Eat foods containing milk sugar only in the mornings.
  • Instead of coffee ☕ with milk, only have coffee black.

Now I am excited about the coming week.

May 02, 2022 - 83 days until the start of the trip.

I finally? received a final promise from the organization that organizes this adventure that the adventure takes place 100%. Now I can finally buy the plane tickets✈️ and the rest of the necessary equipment. There are still a few warm❄️ things missing on the list, but getting that is not a problem.

In April I was finally able to start my running ? training again, after corona sicknesses ? in March. To be safe I started carefully ⚠️ during running and slowly started training.

My training plan ? looked very simply last week:

  • Monday: exercises on the climbing training board for more finger power
  • Tuesday: 60 minutes run ? at the pulse of max. 147 strokes per minute
  • Wednesday: 60 minutes run ? at the pulse of a max. 147 strokes per minute and exercises on the climbing training board for more finger power
  • Thursday: exercises on the climbing training board for more finger power
  • Friday: 60 minutes run ? at the pulse of a max. 147 strokes per minute.
  • Saturday: exercises on the climbing training board for more finger power
  • Sunday: Unfortunately, running training failed, the night was a bit too short and I didn't want to burden my heart ?. It was planned for 2 hours running at the pulse of max. 135 strokes per minute.

Diet or weight: ?

Still my 108 kg. But I have a good excuse ?. There were just too many "holidays" ?. The last few weeks have not been talking about a diet?. But now it starts again. ?
